All About Tatkal Scheme

Tatkal Reservation Scheme was initially introduced in December, 1997. Initially this scheme was available only in around 110 trains and mainly in Sleeper Class. At that time an extra coach was to be attached for
this purpose. This scheme was thoroughly revised in August 2004 and thereafter in 2009, 2011 & 2012. 


The salient features of this scheme introduced in August 2004, with modifications made from time to time are as under:- 

a. Tatkal booking opens at 10 AM on the previous day of journey excluding date of journey from the train originating station. 

For example, if train is to depart from the originating station on the second of the month, the Tatkal quota for that particular train shall open at 1000 hours on the first of the month.

b. The reservation under this scheme is available only upto the time of preparation of charts. At the time of preparation of charts, the vacant Tatkal accommodation is released to the RAC/waitlisted passengers and no Tatkal charges are realised from such passengers.
c. The facility of change of name is not permitted on the bookings made under Tatkal scheme.
d. No duplicate Tatkal tickets shall be issued. Duplicate Tatkal tick-ets shall be issued only in exceptional cases on payment of full fare including Tatkal charges.
e. The reservation under this scheme can be sought by full fare pay-ing passengers only and no passenger holding concessional ticket is allowed to avail reservation under this scheme.
f. Tatkal tickets are issued only on production of one of the ten prescribed proofs of identity as mentioned below and passen-ger should carry the same proof of identity(in original) during the journey failing which all
the passengers booked on that ticket are considered as travelling without ticket and charged 

accordingly:-
i.  Voter Photo Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India.
ii. Passport
iii.PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department
iv.Driving Licence issued by RTO
v. Photo Identity Card issued by Central /State Government
vi.Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their Students
vii.Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph and 

viii.Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph.
ix. Unique identification Card “Aadhar “.
x. Photo identity cards having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertakings of State/Central Government, District Administrations, Municipal bodies and Panchayat Administrations.
g. The procedure for booking Tatkal ticket is as under:-
 

(i) For booking Tatkal ticket, a self attested photo copy of any one of the proofs of identity mentioned above, of any one passenger, is to be attached to the requisition slip.
(ii) The details of the identity proof is captured by the system and indicated on the reserved tickets as well on the reservation chart.
(iii) It is not mandatory for the passenger(s) to go to the counter to book the Tatkal ticket, however, the proof is to be sent in the aforementioned manner.
(iv) Even for internet booking for Tatkal tickets, the passenger shall enter the identity proof type and number, which is to be used for travel. These details shall be printed on the ERS/indicated on the MRM/VRM as well as in the reservation chart. 

(v) During the journey, the passenger, whose identity card number has been indicated on the ticket, has to produce original proof of identity indicated on the ticket, failing which all the passengers booked on the ticket are treated as travelling without ticket and charged accordingly. Indication comes on the ticket regarding carrying the same original proof of identity during the journey, as indicated on the ticket.
(vi) If the passenger whose identity card number is indicated on the ticket is not travelling, all other passengers booked on that ticket, if found travelling in train, will be treated as travelling without ticket and charged accordingly.

Am I required to carry proof of identity during journey in Reserved Classes?


Any one of the passengers/ the passenger booked on the tickets issued from Computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and internet (i-ticket), undertaking journey in reserved classes, have to carry anyone of the ten prescribed proof of identity (in original) during the journey and produce the same as and
when required failing which all the passengers booked on that ticket will be treated as without ticket and charged accordingly.


The list of valid proofs of identity are as under: 

  1. Voter Photo Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India.
  2. Passport.
  3. PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department.
  4. Driving Licence issued by RTO.
  5. Photo Identity Card having serial number issued by Central/State Government.
  6. Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their Students.
  7. Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph.
  8. Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph.
  9. Unique identification Card “Aadhar”.
  10. Photo identity cards having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertakings of State/Central Government, District Administrations, Municipal bodies and Panchayat Adminis-trations.
  11. In case of reserved tickets booked through computerised Passenger Reservation System(PRS) counters, for undertake-ing journey in Sleeper(SL) & Second Reserved Sitting(2S) classes, attested photocopy of Ration Card with photographs and Nationalized Bank Passbook with photograph are also accepted.

Note: The above said provision is not applicable to Tatkal ticket which is governed by separate instructions.

to find out the current status.

This site also provides real-time information relating to availability of seats (and berths in a train even between a pair of stations), timetable and train fares etc. For general information on Indian Railways, passengers can access the Indian Railways website : www.indianrailways.gov.in

Indian Railways provide telephonic enquiry services through a universal number “139” which is accessible from any where in the country without dialing any STD code.

Record Growth in Service Freight Loading and Earnings


South Eastern Railway during the first eleven months (from April 2013 to February 2014) of the current fiscal has achieved a spectacular performance in freight traffic. It is also a significant aspect that S.E.Railway during this period has already surpassed the target fixed by the Railway Board.

During the period from April 2013 to February 2014 of the current financial year (2013-14), South Eastern Railway has loaded 121.71 million tonnes of freight as against 113.26 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, thus registering a growth of 8.45 million tonnes i.e.7.46%.

Earnings from freight traffic have recorded a growth of 15.76% during the first eleven months of the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of last year. During April to February of current financial year, SER has generated an earning of Rs 9093.28 crores from freight traffic as against Rs. 7855.45 crores earned from freight sector during the same period of last year.

Air-Conditioned Super Fast Premium Trains Between Mumbai-Delhi To Clear Holi Rush

Train No.22913 will depart from Mumbai Central at 16.00 hrs o­n 15th and 17th March, 2014 and reach New Delhi at 07.55 hrs. Similarly, in return direction Train No. 22914 will depart from New Delhi o­n 14th and 16th March, 2014 at 14.00 hrs and reach Mumbai Central at 06.55 hrs.
  
·There will be no commercial stoppages enroute for this train. The trains shall originate and terminate at Mumbai Central and New Delhi stations.
     ·The Premium Trains will consist of AC-3 Tier and AC-2 Tier coaches. Catering shall be provided o­n-board and catering charges shall be part of tariff.

·The booking of these trains will be available o­nly through Internet. The booking of train no. 22913 departing from Mumbai Central o­n 15th march,2014 shall be available o­nly through internet from Monday, 10th march, 2014 while booking of 22913 departing from Mumbai Central o­n 17th march,2014 will be available from  12thMarch,2014., that is IRCTC’s portal and not through the counters at reservation centres.

N. F. Railway All Set To Boost Parcel Traffic Through ‘Parcel Cargo Express Trains


Buoyed by the success of the first ‘Parcel Cargo Express Train’ (PCET) which was introduced between Guwahati and Delhi (via Kolkata) from November, 2013, the Northeast Frontier Railway has drawn up ambitious plans to increase the number as well as the frequency of such trains in the immediate future.
 The PCET between Guwahati and Kolkata / Delhi has completed 11 round trips so far earning a revenue of more than ` 4 crores for the railway. The frequency of this train will be increased to bi-weekly by the end of this month and further to tri-weekly by the end of April, 2014. Two more PCETs – o­ne in the New Guwahati – Kolkata – Vijaywada – Chennai – Bangalore circuit and the other in the New Guwahati – Kolkata – Itarsi – Ahmedabad – Kalyan circuit are expected to be started by the end of May, 2014 and June, 2014 respectively. Both these trains are expected to earn about ` 50 lakhs per trip. N. F. Railway plans to run about 20 round trips of these trains per month from June, 2014 o­nwards.

PURI-SANTRAGACHHI AND SAMBALPUR-YESVANTPUR SUMMER SPECIAL TRAINS BY ECoR

With an aim to provide comfortable journey to the commuters and to avoid rush in different regular trains, East Coast Railway has decided to run weekly Summer Special Trains between Puri-Santragachi and Sambalpur-Yesvantpur.

 08401 Puri-Santragachhi Special train will leave Puri at 2125hrs o­n every Friday between 4th April to 27th June 2014 and will arrive at Santragachhi at 0630hrs o­n the next days. In the return direction, 08402 Santragachhi-Puri Special train will leave Santragachhi at 1900hrs o­n every Saturday between 5thApril to 28th June 2014 and will arrive Puri at 0400hrs o­n the following days.

This train will run with o­ne AC-2 tier, Two AC-3 tiers, 09 Sleeper Class Coaches, Four General Second Class Coaches and Two Guard cum Luggage Vans in its composition having stoppages at Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kharagpur between Puri & Santragachhi.

Similarly, 08301 Sambalpur-Yesvantpur Special train will leave Sambalpur at 0850hrs o­n every Wednesday between 2nd April to 25th June 2014 and will arrive at Yesvanpur at 1630hrs o­n the next days. In the return direction, 08302 Yesvantpur-Sambalpur Special train will leave Yesvantpur at 0030hrs o­n every Friday (Midnight of Thursday) between 4TH April to 27thJune 2014 and will arrive Sambalpur at 0615hrs o­n the Saturdays.
