A new railway station between Thane and Mulund could soon be a reality. On Tuesday, the state health department said it will part with a portion of land from the Thane Mental Hospital for the project, after conducting a joint survey with the Thane civic body.

The decision was taken during a meeting health minister Deepak Sawant held with officials from the health department and the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Railways to lay Foundation Stone for Medak-Akkannapet New Rail Line

Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Railways, will lay foundation stone for the construction of Medak-Akkannapet New Rail Line at an official function to be held at Govt. Boys High School, Medak at 01:00 pm o­n 19^th January, 2014 

 The 17.2 Km. long Medak-Akkannapet new railway line, which was sanctioned in Railway Budget of financial year 2012-13, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 129.30 Cr. The cost of the project will be shared by Railways and the Govt. of AP equally (on 50: 50 basis).

The function will be held in the august presence of Shri C. Damodar  Raja Narasimha, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Higher Education & Technical Education, Govt. of A.P. The Guests of  Honour  include Hon’ble Ministers, Govt. of AP - Smt. D.K. Aruna,  Dr. (Smt.) J. Geetha Reddy and Smt. V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy;    Hon’ble Govt. Whip & MLA-Shri T. Jayaprakash Reddy; Hon’ble Members of Parliament-Shri Nandi Yellaiah, and Smt. Vijaya Shanthi;   Hon’ble  MLCs-Shri V. Bhoopal Reddy, Shri K. Swamy Goud, Shri Paturi Sudhakakar Reddy and Shri Md. Farooq Hussain; Hon’ble MLA (Medak) - Shri M. Hanmantha Rao and Hon’ble Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat, Akkannapet -Smt. Maheshwari.
