The two lines, that received final approval over a month ago, were envisioned to provide relief to suburban traffic by providing a separate line for passenger trains coming in and out of Mumbai.
The project has come to a standstill as corporate offices in places like Parel, lie right in the middle of the new line’s track layout, said officials from Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) and the CR that are both working together on the project.
“It’s a fact that Mumbai grew faster than the Railways could anticipate. We cannot treat Mumbai like any other city, getting every square inch is a war here. Railway officials in Delhi did not take this into account,” said an MRVC official, on condition of anonymity.
