Confirming the developments, Pune Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Suneet Sharma told Sakal Times that the work for the laying of the tracks will begin after Railways provide the funds for the project.

Once the third track is in place, the frequency of local and express trains on the busy Pune-Lonavla-Mumbai section of Central Railway will improve by leaps and bounds.
Railway officials said that the survey by the Railways dealt with the feasibility of constructing a third track between Pune and Lonavla. "The survey found out that Railways have to acquire some private land for the project. On our part, we have sufficient amount of land to start the project," the railway officials added.
